Economy and Politics: Why States Need to Drive Broadband Penetration in Nigeria
This edition of the "Economy and Politics" show features Mr. Shina Badaru the Founder/Chairman of Technology Times as he speaks on the topic "Rethinking Policy Strategies to Unlock Opportunities in Nigeria's Digital Economy".
He acknowledged the efforts of the Federal Government in developing a robust digital economy, through the National Digital Economy Policy and Strategy; but stressed that if Nigeria is to achieve scale it must be a second-tier level through the States.
Looking at 20 years since the liberalization of the telecommunications industry, he said there has been remarkable growth in the Information and Communication Technology sector, ICT which remains one of the biggest drivers of the Nigerian economy.
He called for the increased rollout of fibre optics in the country citing the example of the education system, where students in schools can experience an improved learning environment and access information that is relevant to their studies.
