FG Should Address Structural Economic Issues for MSMEs to Thrive in Nigeria - Ayo Bankole Akintujoye
Socio-economic structural issues like infrastructure, tax policies, business environment, provision of industrial & business zones, security and economic policies that have a holistic approach to addressing unemployment should be addressed by the Federal Government and States for Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises, MSMEs to thrive in Nigeria.
Mr. Ayo Bankole Akintujoye the Convener, Lagos SME Bootcamp made this point as a guest on the "Economy and Politics" show anchored by Ottoabasi Abasiekong which discussed "The Assessment of MSME Support Post October, 2020 Violence In Nigeria (Part 2)".
According to him with the violence that followed the recent peaceful #EndSARS protests which adversely affected MSMEs across the country was unfortunate, and he commended the response of the Federal Government and States but called for proactive steps and measures; like the provision of social safety nets and insurance covers for the businesses.
He reiterated the need for a more sector-specific approach in the intervention plans of government for MSMEs that can generate jobs and achieve growth for the economy, citing the Lagos State Employment Trust Fund initiative as a strategic initiative that other states can emulate.
