FG Should Show Commitment To Varsity Education By Implementing The 2009 Agreement With ASUU - Prof Akpan Ekpo
The Federal Government has been tasked with implementing the 2009 agreement with the Academic Staff Union of Universities, that will go a long way in addressing the incessant strikes that have paralyzed academic activities in tertiary institutions.
Professor Akpan Hogan Ekpo an Economist and former Vice Chancellor of the University of Uyo made this point as a guest on the "Economy and Politics" show anchored by Ottoabasi Abasiekong.
Speaking on the topic of discourse "The Triple Helix, University Education and Human Capital Development in Nigeria" Professor Akpan Ekpo described the initiative by the Nigeria Economic Summit Group, NESG as a dynamic step but wanted it to be pragmatic in approach.
The scholar stressed the need for the private sector in Nigeria to form a strong group that can provide holistic support to varsities in the area of funding, infrastructure, skills development, industry-university learning experience, research and development among other areas.
He believed a conscious and strategic partnership between private sector and universities, will boost Nigeria's competitiveness at the global level.
