Economy and Politics: States Should Prioritize Projects, Deepen IGR & Drive Digital Economy - Prof Akpan Ekpo
As States in Nigeria continue to grapple with the socio-economic challenges of unemployment, declining revenues and low subventions from the Federation account, there is need to prioritize critical infrastructure projects of economic viability, deepen the internally generated revenue base and drive a robust digital economy.
The Chairman of the Akwa Ibom State Post COVID-19 Economic Recovery Committee disclosed this as a guest on the "Economy and Politics" show anchored by Ottoabasi Abasiekong.
Providing insight on the topic of discourse "Sub-Nationals, Digital Economy and Development" Professor Akpan Ekpo an economist with over 3 decades experience said it was time for Nigeria to adopt a fiscal restructuring model that will reflect in the revenue allocation, decentralization of resource control/utilization and create more opportunities for states to thrive.
He also made a strong case for states to explore development plans like Akwa Ibom state, which is considering a 5 year and 30 year plan respectively.
