Good branding is arguably the most important thing when it comes to ensuring achievements along a career path. Omobabirin Adeola Osideko made this point in a recent conversation on the topic 'Branding for Career Opportunities'.

'We live in a golden age of branding that has evolved from what it used to be to what it is presently due to the advent of technology' she said.

Osideko described branding as a continuous and intentional effort to create and influence an individual's public perception by positioning them as an authority in their industry, elevating their credibility, and differentiating themselves from the competition, to ultimately advance their career and increase their circle of influence.

Branding according to her can be grouped into three classes; personal, business, and corporate branding.  She also said that the reason for branding was to influence, grow business, and extend career opportunities.

Speaking further on branding for career opportunities, the brand expert stated that it was important to stand out from the crowd to become a brand.

In terms of branding, she mentioned that a practical way to achieving good branding in the 21st century was to have a strong and reliable social media presence. She stated that employers would go the extra mile to research the preferred candidate for any given position through the social media platform.

'It is very important for every career-driven individual to keep their social media page sane and be intentional about putting out valuable content, including the head shot' Osideko added.

She also stressed the need for every career-driven individual to develop an elevator pitch, which she explained as a brief and persuasive speech that can spark interest and communicate a personal brand message. She stated that a good elevator pitch should last no longer than a short elevator ride of 20 to 30 seconds.

Osideko further stressed the importance of networking and building relationship to attract career opportunities, stating that opportunity can present itself while networking. She advised that career-driven individuals should be intentional about developing their skills.

In maintaining brand relevance, Osideko stressed that to achieve consistency, there is a need for constant learning to attain growth, which means it is important to learn, unlearn and relearn as learning in itself is a continuous process.

She also pointed out the need for a career-driven individual to be courteous and observe the necessary etiquette while among people.
