Being the text of an address by the Chairman, Gombe State Investment and Property Development Company, Alhaji (Dr.) Umaru Kwairanga, Sarkin Fulanin Gombe, On the occasion of a courtesy visit to the Executive Secretary, Nigerian Investment Promotion Council on Tuesday, September 7, 2021.
Let me begin by expressing our appreciation to you madam and your management for finding time out of your very busy schedule to receive the members of the Board and top management of Gombe State Investment and Property Development Company on this courtesy visit.
We are here to first congratulate you on the giant strides that the NIPC has made under your leadership and also to seek avenues of collaboration between our two organisations.
Gombe State Investment and Property Development Company was established in 1999 to manage the State's various investments build up a portfolio of viable assets and drive development in the state. It however largely underachieved in the last twenty years. It was in light of the gap between the performance and potential of the company that the Executive Governor of Gombe State, Alhaji Inuwa Yahaya, decided to revamp the Company by instituting a new board and management and giving it a renewed mandate and vital support.
My board was inaugurated in July 2021 and we have set ourselves the task of positioning the company at the forefront of the development narrative in Gombe State. This involves resuscitating various legacy assets and projects as well as actualising new initiatives of the Alhaji Inuwa Yahaya administration such as the Gombe State Industrial Park and Special Development zones planned for the three senatorial zones. To achieve these goals, the Governor has constituted a board of high-performance committed technocrats and achievers who you see here today.
The Board however realises that to meet our targets in good time, we need the collaboration and assistance of agencies like the NIPC which have developed capabilities and networks that we need.
How can GSIPD and the NIPC work together:-
The Nigerian Investment Promotion Commission was established in 2004 to encourage, promote and coordinate investments in the Nigerian economy. From that perspective, GSIPDC is also the agency registered and empowered to do same for Gombe State. We therefore seek to collaborate with and learn from the NIPC as to how we can effectively carry out our investment promotion mandate.
We, for example would want to know what are the key metrics that investors consider when deciding where to invest and how we can quickly put this in place in order to attract more investors to our state. We would also like the NIPC to help advertise our state and our company in its various form and we ask this with good reason. Gombe State was this year ranked as number one on the Ease of doing Business chart, a testament to the State Governor's determination to improve the state's processes and friendliness to business. GSIPDC on its part stands ready to support all kinds of investors especially those interested in agriculture and agro-processing, solid minerals and manufacturing.
The State Government recently conceptualised and launched a world-class development master plan and the Governor is determined to see to its timely and effective implementation, I would like to specifically mention one of the components of the master plan which is an Industrial Park that is being promoted and developed by the State Government.
These are various initiatives currently ongoing in our state which we wish to inform you about and through you the investing community in Nigeria and internationally.
We look forward to very fruitful discussions today and productive and long-lasting partnerships between our two organisations going forward.
Thank you very much.
