SEC & NASS House Committee on Capital Market Visit to NASD PLC

NASD PLC held a Capital Market invent on Wednesday December 10, 2020 which hosted members of the Securities Exchange Commission (SEC) and the National House of Assembly (NHA).

 

NASD PLC was introduced to the House committee and the discussion was focused on the following:

 

The Establishment:

  • Licensed by SEC in 2012 to operate a full OTC Market and commenced operations in 2013
  • Grew from an Association in the 90s to a public company as of 2017
  • Caters to both Primary and Secondary ends of the capital market
  • Contains a large, diverse and committed community of Authorized Traders, Participating Institutions, Issuing Houses and Custodians.
  • Launched a growth platform for SME's funding (NASDeP) in April 2018.
  • Launched a crowdfunding site (VentureRamp) in 2020

 

The role of NASD as the central infrastructure bridging investor and issuer

  • NASD Enterprise Portal (NASDeP) which supports both small and big enterprise
  • NASD deploys various tools to ensure a safe and limited risk market
  • Trade Guarantee Fund: protects investors against a settlement default and enables a stable market
  • Investor Protection Fund: Established pursuant to section 197 of the Investments and Securities Act, 2007 ("ISA"). It compensates investors who suffer pecuniary loss arising from the revocation of license, insolvency or defalcation of a participating institution
  • T+3 DVP Settlement Cycle: All trades are settled through the Central Securities Clearing System ["CSCS"]. Ensuring orderly and transaction completion

Week 50 Overview

 

NASD OTC Securities Exchange closed the week with a positive return on NSI. The NSI return rose by 1.98% to close the week at 733.77 points against 719.53 points on the preceding Friday, December 04 2020.

 

In addition, Week 50 saw NASD Investors gain N10.58 Billion in value. NASD OTC Market capitalization closed at N545.41 Billion compared to N534.83 Billion in the preceding Friday, resulting from a positive movement of prices.

There was a -23.34% decrease in the total value traded during the week as week 50 saw NASD Investors trade a total of N266,740,229.25 in value compared to N347,961,169.00 in the previous week. Total trade activity for the year is valued at N12,555,317,549.28.


Total volume traded during the week was 6,456,444.00 units compared to 1,464,671.00 units in the previous week leading to a 340.81% increase in trade volume compared to week 49. Total volume traded for the year is 7,920,715,252 units.
