Seasoned Nigerian Investment Banker Mrs Toyin Sanni today at the Nigeria Stock Exchange (NSE) launched her book “Riding the Eagle: A Guide to Investing in Nigeria”.

The event brought together stakeholders in the financial services sector and the capital market.

Giving his opening remarks the Chief Executive of the NSE, Mr Oscar Onyema, noted that the book was a welcome narrative to efforts of government regulators, and the organised private sector in attracting investment into the country, and thereby accelerating economic growth.

Onyema described the book as a useful resource for those seeking to make profitable investments in Nigeria.

The book according to the NSE’s CEO guides investors on navigating the sharp corners and bumpy roads of the local investment climate.

Giving her remarks at the event the Acting Director-General of the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), Ms Mary Uduk said “As a result of its large population, Nigeria offers rich human resource-base with quality human capital and relatively low labour costs and investment opportunities riding on the back of major development gaps”.

She was of the view that the book is a trailblazer in a series of other books by professionals that disclose relevant information and analysis to promote investments in the economy.

Uduk stressed that providing investors reliable information will enhance transparency in the Nigerian financial market and improve its global reputation.

“It is imperative therefore that we all as stakeholders continue to take positive steps to attract and retain both local and foreign investments to stimulate economic growth and develop critical infrastructure necessary for our country’s development” Uduk said.

On her part the Senior Special Adviser (SSA) to the President on Industries, Trade and Investment Dr Jumoke Oduwole  commended Mrs Toyin Sanni, who she described as go-to person on the reform efforts of the Federal Government in the area of “Ease of Doing Business”.

She used the opportunity to explain that the Presidential Enabling Business Environment Council has engaged major arms of the government, sub-national governments and ministries, departments and agencies to drive reforms.

Oduwole informed guests at the launch that the target of the Federal Government was to lead Nigeria to the top 100, in the next World Bank Ease of Doing Business survey.

Chairperson of the event and Executive Vice Chairman Famfa Oil Mrs Folorunsho Alakija noted that the book was practical and pragmatic drawing from the perspective of an investment manager and banker with over 30 years of experience in the industry.

She recommended the book to the government, universities, entrepreneurs and even secondary schools which will broaden the scope of financial insight into the local investment space.
