The Lagos State Internal Revenue Service (LIRS) has issued a public notice (the Notice) informing all taxable individuals resident in Lagos State of its decision to further extend the deadline for filing individual income tax returns for 2019, from 31 May 2020 to 30 June 2020.

It would be recalled that LIRS had earlier extended the deadline for filing the 2019 tax returns by two (2) months, from 31 March 2020 to 31 May 2020.

This further extension is necessary as a response to the plea of taxpayers who are currently experiencing challenges collating required documents for the annual returns, as a result of the impact of the Coronavirus (COVID-19 or the Pandemic) which has hampered the free flow of activities. However, with the issuance of the Notice, individual taxpayers resident in Lagos State during 2019 have ample time to collate all required documents for filing their individual income tax returns online via the dedicated e-tax portal at

LIRS also calls on taxpayers in the State to explore the opportunities afforded to them by the portal, to conclude matters relating to tax administration, generation of tax notice of assessment and payment of tax liability, from the comfort of their homes and offices.
