There was no sign of rebound at the close of the day’s trading session as all the market indicators declined. The ASI and Market Capitalisation shed 154.99 basis points (0.74%) and N35 billion (0.74%) to close at 20,848.43 points and N4.666 trillion compared with 21,003.42 points and N4.701 trillion on Friday last week.

 

The volume, value and number of deals reduced by 69.56%, 51.48% and 11.01% respectively from 665.30 million units worth N2.29 billion in 6,867 deals to 202.51 million units valued at N1.11 billion in 6,111 deals.
 

Top Five Trades

Guinea Insurance Plc led the activity chart, trading 20.863 million units worth N11.50 million in 19 deals followed by Spring Bank Plc (17.958 million units), Fidelity Bank Plc (15.153 million units), First Bank of Nigeria Plc (10.763 million units) and Oceanic Bank Plc (10.760 million units).

 

Analysis of Gainers/Losers

A total of 132 equities exchanged hands out of which 26 (20%) gained, 55 (41%) declined, leaving 51 (39%) stagnant in their share prices.

 

Notable Gainers

Total Plc led the chart, gaining N6.17 (5.00%) to close at N129.66 followed by UACN, Oando and Dangote Sugar. Others were GlaxoSmithKline, Diamond Bank, Afribank, Custodian & Allied Insurance, Cement Company of Northern Nigeria, Vitafoam, among others.

 
Notable Decliners

Mobil Oil Plc continued its free fall, losing N6.25 (5.00%) to close at N118.80. Others were African Petroleum, Nestle Foods, UAC Property, C&I Leasing, First Bank of Nigeria, Union Homes Savings & Loans, BAGCO, to mention a few.

May & Baker Nigeria Plc was incorporated on September 4, 1944 and was listed on the Daily Official List of the NSE on November 10, 1994 under the Healthcare sub-sector. The company is both a manufacturer and distributor of pharmaceutical products such as antibiotics, anesthetics, analgesics, anti-malaria, multivitamins, diagnostics equipment, reagents, consumer products and human vaccines.  

 

The company’s current number of outstanding shares is 700,000,000 with an EPS of N0.31 and a P/E Ratio of 13.26x. In the previous week, a total of 374,745 units worth N1.54 million were exchanged in 38 deals to close the week at N4.30 per ordinary share.

The second quarter result for the period ended June 30, 2008 showed a 41.65% increase in Turnover from N1.60 billion in 2007 to N2.27 billion in 2008, a 7.63% rise in PBT from N131 million to N141 million and a 7.87% appreciation in PAT from N89 million to N96 million.
