Guinea Insurance appoints new MD, ED

The board of directors, Guinea Insurance Plc has announced the appointment of a new Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer, Mr. Soji Emiola, with a mandate to reposition the company’s business for greater success.
Also appointed alongside Emiola, is the Executive Director, Marketing, Mr. Ekerete Gam-Ikon. Alhaji Abdulkarim Oshioke Kadiri, an accomplished Chartered Accountant and Auditor par excellence, has equally been announced as an Independent Non-Executive Director on the board.
The tested professionals are poised and committed to add significant value to Guinea Insurance Plc to the benefits of all stakeholders.
These appointments form part of the board’s redefinition agenda geared towards driving the company for optimum performance.
Mr. Emiola, a qualified insurer and consummate marketer of repute, was until now, the Executive Director and Head of Cornerstone General Business, an arm of Cornerstone Group, one of Nigeria ’s leading insurance and financial service provider.
Conveying the decision of the board on the appointments, Chairman of Guinea Insurance Plc, Sir Emeka Offor, said the appointments would redefine the company’s vision of becoming a leading insurance company in the shortest possible time. He, therefore, solicited support and cooperation of all stakeholders for the new appointees to enable them deliver on their mandates.
The new CEO parades a rich resume and robust pedigree. He is a professional with strong bias for marketing. A chartered insurance practitioner with over two decades cognate post-qualification experience spanning lecturing, underwriting, corporate planning, branch networking, business development and strategic marketing. He joined Cornerstone Insurance in 1992 as a Senior Executive in the Motor, Marine and Claims Unit and rose through the ranks to the position of Executive Director/Head of General Business, through dint of hard work.
Emiola is a 1986 Insurance graduate of University of Lagos and holds a Masters degree in Business Administration Enugu State University of Science and Technology. He is an associate member of the Chartered Insurance Institute of Nigeria. He was, before his elevation to the position of Executive Director and Head of General Business of Cornerstone Insurance, the General Manager, Operations; a Deputy General Manager and Head of the Business Network Group. He was also previously the pioneer Branch Manager of Port Harcourt where he built the branch from scratch which later became a regional office, and in the process recorded tremendous business breakthrough for the company.
He was given the best manager awards in 1997 and 1998. He equally headed Ikeja Head office Annex.
He has attended high profile and prestigious executive management training programmes in and outside the country including the Senior Management Programme of Lagos Business School in 2000, fit for Executive Decision in Zurich , Switzerland in 2007 and Leading and Managing People, Wharton Executive Education, Pennsylvania, USA.
Emiola, who is currently familiarizing himself with the company’s operations, took the helms formally as Managing Director/CEO, effective, November 1, 2010.
The newly appointed Executive Director, Marketing, Ekerete Gam-Ikon, is an Economist, Customer Advocate and Certified Process Professional.
Gam-Ikon, who is to drive the business performance and brand management of Guinea Insurance Plc, is a quality addition with an impressive resume. He graduated from the University of Calabar, with a Bachelor of Science (Honours) Degree in Economics. He left Cornerstone Insurance Plc in June 2009 as Group Head, Corporate Development and founded The Third Party Media Company Limited, a customer advocacy company for the insured.
He was the pioneer Managing Director/CEO First Chartered Insurance Company Limited, Lagos. With considerable industry experience earned from Leadway Assurance Company, Mutual Benefit Assurance and the then Central Insurance Company, Gam-Ikon comes with considerable pedigree to Guinea Insurance Plc.
