Consumer Goods Sector Records 3 Gainers to 12 Losers YTD; VITAFOAM Leads With 0.13% YTD Return

Trading activities within the Consumer Goods sector recorded a slight uplift on the Nigerian bourse as the sector accounted for 2.15% of the market volume traded before the lockdown as against 4.48% of volume traded during the lockdown as at April 22nd, 2020.

A performance review of the stocks listed in the sector on the Nigerian Stock Exchange reflected that it has been bearish so far in the year with a ration of 1:4 in terms of gainers to losers. A review of the NSE Consumer Goods Index revealed that it has so far dropped by -37.25% YTD as against -14.80% YTD loss recorded by the NSEASI. This suggested the NSE Banking Index has so far underperformed the NSEASI in year 2020 as at April 29th, 2020.

Advancers and Decliners

A review of the gainers and losers within the Consumer Goods sector reflected that the sector recorded three (3) gainers to twelve (12) losers. VITAFOAM and FLOURMILL lead the list of gainers with +0.13% and +0.07% YTD returns as at April 29th, 2020.

 

However, UNILEVER and INTBREW lead the list of the twelve (12) losers with -0.52% and -0.49% losses respectively.

 

Further analysis on advancers and decliners showed that consumer goods sector recorded more gainers and less losers during lockdown and otherwise before lockdown. 7 gainers to 3 losers were recorded during lockdown as at April 29th, 2020 as against 1 gainer to 14 losers.

Ratio Analysis

A review of the EPS of the Consumer Goods stocks showed that NESTLE has the highest EPS ratio of 57.63 and closely followed by FLOURMILL with 1.99 EPS.

 

GOLDBREW and INTBREW recorded negative EPS to lead otherwise.
