Market Records +32.11% YTD Gain; UBA, Zenith and FBNH Make upTop 3 by Volume

Market performance in the last few years has been mixed. The key market indicator, NSEASI closed year 2012 and 2013 with 35.45% and 47.19% gains respectively while it recorded -16.14% loss in 2014. Further losses were recorded in 2015 and 2016 with -17.36% and -6.16% losses recorded respectively.

As at August 31, 2017, NSEASI has recorded 32.11% YTD gain.

 A review of the YTD performance of the NSE Sector indices revealed that NSE Banking index recorded 60.28% YTD gain as at August 31st, 2017 to outperform other sector indices as NSE Pension followed closely with 51.70% YTD gain. However, NSE Oil & Gas and NSE ASeM Indices recorded -4.40% and -2.43% YTD losses within the period under review.

 Analysis on the top 20 performing stocks on the NSE bourse revealed that MAYBAKER topped the chart with 220.21% YTD Gain while FIDSON and STANBIC followed closed with 160.94% and 155.13% YTD gains.

 A look at the top 5 banking stocks revealed that STANBIC topped with 155.13% YTD gains and closely followed by UBA and ETI with 102.22% and 75.10% gains while FBNH and ACCESS recorded 70.15% and 64.74% gains each to complete the top 5 list.

 A review of the top ten most traded stocks by volume as at 31st August 2017 revealed that they were dominated by stocks listed in the banking sub-sector. 

UBA recorded the highest traded volume with 6.19bn volume of shares traded while ZENITHBANK and FBNH followed closely with 4.91bn and 4.47bn volumes traded.
