Creating a vision board is an activity that is embarked on at the beginning of the year for most individuals, it is a strategy that helps individuals to identify their goals, plans, and dreams for the future and The Millennial Talk program anchors in their recent discussion demonstrated 'How to Create a Vision Board'.

Shedding light on the concept of a Vision Board Nifemi Taiyese defined it as a tool used to help clarify, concentrate, and maintain focus on what truly matters to individuals, it is a visual representation that represents whatever you want to be, do, or have in your life. A good vision board should contain the time frame, resources, and tools needed to achieve the set goals.

According to the programmes Co-anchor, Bukumi Adejobi, having a Vision Board is important as it helps individuals to achieve set goals and draw them a step closer to their dreams.

Conceptualizing the idea of the vision board is the fun stage, however, the less elegant but equally crucial stage is the follow-through on the set goals which require personal discipline, grit, and commitment, she noted.

Both anchors highlighted tips for Millennials to follow in staying the course as they journey towards actualizing their vision, key considerations include the following;

  • Consistency: Being consistent in following through with prepared vision boards will make it easy for individuals not to go off track.
  • Discipline: this entails working in a controlled manner and following the standards in place while working to meet set timeframes such as a professional course.
  • Intentional: individuals should be intentional about every step and avoid time-wasting external factors.
  • Invest in Yourself: Developing abilities over time is a huge investment that requires careful planning and promotes individual abilities in school and in the workplace, which makes them learn, grow, and create value.
  • Accountability Partner: having a partner that helps to commit and adhere to the vision board is essential.
  • Knowledge: Knowledge is power, sourcing for information through conducting research is paramount to discovering other avenues to arrive at the result.

The items needed in creating a vision board include Scissors, Cardboard, Glue Sticks, Paper and Pen, Markers, Sticky notes, Image cut-outs from Magazines, Artworks, Old books, and Computer Printouts.

Taiyese mentioned that there were applications that have been developed through technology that helped to digitize the process of creating a vision board. Adejobi supported us of the 'old school' hard copy as it is more visible and would remain if an individual's phone, tablet, or laptop becomes faulty.

In creating their vision boards, the anchors took into consideration several aspects of life which included the spiritual, travel, personal growth and development, finance, work, career, and inspiration.

The anchors noted that once the idea has been conceptualized and displayed on a board, millennials could attach Vision Boards to locations or devices that are boldly visible such as mirrors, closet doors, home screen images, and phones.
