The Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation (NDIC) in conjunction with the State Security Services (SSS), Abuja Command organized a security awareness /sensitization programme for its staff on how to handle security threats. The programme which was structured in Three (3) runs for Senior and Executive staff (8th, 9th and 10th February, 2011) and Two (2) runs for Junior Staff (9th and 10th February 2011) was aimed at reminding the staff of the need to prepare themselves for eventualities that could pose a threat to their lives, property both personal and at work place. The main thrust of the programme was to sensitise the participants on the importance of ensuring personal security, security of official documents, information management and security of assets/records.
In his opening remarks, the Managing Director /CEO of NDIC, Alhaji Umaru Ibrahim noted that while the Federal Government and the various security agencies have introduced certain security measures to address the menace, the various organizations both public and private as well as the generality of Nigerians also need to become more security aware and tighten their security arrangements to ensure the successful implementation of the various security measures already put in place. Consequently, the Corporation in its usual proactive manner organized the sensitization programme to increase the security awareness of its staff.
In his comments, the Director SSS, Abuja Command said the workshop was part of the command’s determination to constantly remind people of the need to be more security conscious and to prepare themselves not only within and around the workplace but in their respective homes.
