EnterpriseNGR to Champion Nigeria's Emergence as Africa's Foremost Financial Center

Board members of the newly established enterprise development platform, EnterpriseNGR,  have noted that the organization was poised to transform Nigeria's economic landscape, targetting the nation's evolution into Africa's foremost financial center, and modelled after similar organizations globally.

 

The independent, member-led policy and advocacy group is the first of its kind in Nigeria and intends to promote and advocate for members of the Financial and Professional Services (FPS) sector. 

 

By interacting with key industry stakeholders (globally and locally) and policymakers at all levels of government, EnterpriseNGR aims to effect positive economic change in Nigeria, advance the business priorities of its members and ensure that their voices matter.


"The private sector and government must work together to promote Nigeria, both overseas and domestically, as a world-class center for financial services," said EnterpriseNGR Board's Chair Mr. Aigboje Aig-Imoukhuede, in a statement. According to him, "EnterpriseNGR will lead private sector advocacy and interventions in partnership with government and regulators." 


Taking advantage of the expertise of its members, who are seasoned professionals across the FPS sector, EnterpriseNGR would focus its activities on set priorities by pursuing the most significant impact in the areas of; financial inclusion, digitization, regionalization, international trade, investment and sustainability.


EnterpriseNGR hosted the "Voices of Enterprise" event on Thursday, 14th October 2021, to mark its formal launchIt featured Prof. Yemi Osinbajo, GCON, Vice President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. It had as its keynote speaker, Mr. Bayo Ogunlesi, Chairman and Managing Partner, Global Infrastructure Partners (GIP), the  US$75 billion infrastructure fund manager based in New York City and owners of Gatwick Airport, London City Airport and other significant global investments. The event also saw the presence of leading industry players from Europe, Asia, and Nigeria.  


EnterpriseNGR is to launch its inaugural program, the "Youth of Enterprise" internship program, which aims at recruiting and onboarding more than five thousand interns in its first year. The flagship program seeks to upskill and grow talent in the financial and professional service sector right from the entry level.


"Our goal is to place five thousand interns annually and scale this up to one hundred thousand over ten years," said EnterpriseNGR CEO, Ms. Obi Ibekwe. "This effort reinforces our determination to contribute our quota towards resolving the unemployment problem in Nigeria. Working alongside identified partners in the financial and professional services sector, we will engage and recruit graduates for a combination of virtual and in-person internship roles at partner organizations."


EnterpriseNGR said the "Youth of Enterprise" internship program was its commitment to empowering the next generation of workplace talent, creating meaningful work experiences and fostering an ecosystem of support and networking.
