Computer and Office Equipment Giants, Omatek Ventures Plc (Omatek) has made history in Lagos Nigeria by unveiling the first ever world’s smallest desktop Personal Computer (PC), known as the Omatek handtop PC.
At the unveiling ceremony to the Press at the Omatek Victoria Island Office, Mrs. Florence Seriki, Group Managing Director (GMD) of the company affirmed that the smallest desktop PC is in continuation of the company’s trail blazing efforts on the global technological stage.
“As the first of its kind to be launched in Africa, the Omatek handtop PC  is a compact 8 inch desktop based on more-typical and more-powerful notebook components which requires little space on your desk” Mrs. Seriki said.
She further affirmed that the Omatek handtop is a great value for anyone looking for a basic PC for managing photos, sending e-mails, surfing the Web, and performing other common tasks.
The Omatek handtop PC can equally be described as a 3-in-one system which can be mounted behind the Plasma/LCD to serve as presentation screen and/or TV monitor. It can also afford executives the opportunity to surf the web” she said.
The Omatek machine comes equipped with Intel’s new miniature, power-efficient 1.6 GHz Atom processor 1GB of DDR2 RAM, and a 160GB 5400rpm 2.5-inch SATA hard drive. The handtop also has an integrated Intel GMA 950 graphics card with shared video memory.
The Omatek GMD asserts that the handtop PC’s gaming performance is very strong using PC World Bench test. “It is also low in power consumption as it consumes just 15 to 20 watts of power, which is less than what most notebooks consume” she affirmed.
“It comes with various platforms like Windows XP Home, XP Pro and Windows vista Basic or Mandriva Linux. It includes a stand, as well as a mount kit and is equipped with a wireless keyboard and mouse with an optional display unit.
The space –saving PC is useful to executives as a mobile desktop, while home and small-office users will find it valuable as compact work-tool; while students will find it handy as   rugged but extremely efficient tool for the e-learning environment, backed by Omatek resource centers being established in most institutions in Nigeria” Mrs. Seriki said.
She again affirmed that Omatek pioneering efforts in bringing in new technologies in the PC market stemmed from being the first Completely Knocked down (CKD) factory in Africa, who buys her components from first class factories in Asia.
“Omatek will not rest in her quest to remain Africa’s foremost solutions provider” she said.
Meanwhile she confirmed that Omatek would be completing her 2008 Financial Year End (FYE) tomorrow Tuesday June 30 2009 and the company is set for a Board meeting in August 2009 to decide when Omatek would have its first ever post-listing Annual General Meeting (AGM).
“Omatek would end her 2008 financial year tomorrow and we are preparing for our final board meeting to herald the company’s first AGM about a year after listing on the Stock Exchange” she said.
