The Nigerian Internet group a non-profit organisation held its 2013 annual conference and exhibition at the Golden gate restaurant,Ikoyi Lagos.

With the theme and focus on 'Broadband as a Tool for Nation Building' the event brought together stakeholders and players in the ICT.

Speaking at the occasion the Chairman of the Board of trustees of the Nigerian Internet Group, Engr. Olawale Ige MFR former Minister for Communications described  NIG as a body instrumental to ICT growth in  the country.

The distinguished technocrat further stressed that there has been remarkable growth in the telecommunications industry, internet penetration and digital revolution owing to the advocacy of his group.

In his remarks the Minister for National Planning Dr Shamsudeen Usman asserted that Broadband plays a critical role in socio-economic development.

Represented by the Assistant Director,ICT for the Ministry Mr Jimmy Offor the Minister said the launch of the National Integrated Infrastructural Plan launched July,2012  will help to transform the landscape of the nation.

 The Executive Vice Chairman of the Nigerian Communications Commission(NCC) Mr Eugene Juwah stressed that proper regulations  was key to driving the broadband policy in Nigeria.

Also represented at the occasion  by his  Special Adviser Technical Mr  Edoyemi, Mr  Juwah stressed that effective broadband policy hinges on 'reliability and speed'.

Highlights of the event were presentations on the critical aspects of broadband technology, and how they accelerate development and nation-building.
