First Bank Nigeria Plc has launched its mobile money service ‘Firstmonie’ for customers and non customers of the bank in Nigeria, thus facilitating easy and efficient local money transfer services.
With the introduction of this new platform, anyone and everyone in the country can use their mobile phones to send money, pay bills, buy phone airtime, do shopping, deposit and withdraw cash without the need to visit the branch of any bank. All that is needed is for users to dial *894# to register for the service.
Speaking at the launch, FirstBank’s Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, Mr. Bisi Onasanya said “the launch of FirstMonie is a great example of how consumers benefit when financial institutions and mobile operators form partnerships. Because of services like ‘FirstMonie’, we see significant growth opportunities in mobile financial services in Nigeria in the coming year”.
He added that only 30 per cent of the country’s 160 million people have access to formal financial services while there are more than 93 million mobile phone subscribers in Nigeria.
It is the believe of the bank that the introduction of ‘FirstMonie’ will open new paths for robust partnerships with telecoms service providers to offer better access and customer focused services.
These partnerships will ultimately change the landscape and open up new routes for jobs and support services in the economy as well.
