FG commends Omatek on e-learning initiative

The Federal Government Nigeria (FGN) has commended Computer and Office Equipment Giants, Omatek Ventures Plc (Omatek) for it Electronic Learning (e-learning) initiative which had led to positive contribution in the development of education in Nigeria.

The Release affirmed that Dr. Sam Egwu, Minister of Education (MOE)  made this commendation on behalf of the FG recently in Abuja Nigeria; at the official launching of the Omatek e-Learning Initiative and the unveiling of the Omatek 8 and 10 inch Smartbooks for Schools.
Dr. Egwu also asserts that the administration of Umar Yar’Adua, President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria recently unveiled the Ministry’s Road Map which is intended to harness and give direction to the FG’s efforts aimed at strengthening capacity building and quality of education at all levels in the country.
He confirmed that the Omatek e-learning initiative is therefore a viable means of adding value to the FG’s programme on e-Learning
Dr. Egwu further reiterated that this road map took consideration of the advantages of Information and Communications Technology (ICT) and what it will bring to the academia.
“The unveiling of the Omatek products for the education sector is a testimony to the role the private sector can continue to play in the actualisation of the country’s hopes for a brighter future for education.
In the same vein, Dr. Tim Farinre, chairman of the company; confirmed that the Omatek e-learning initiative is a one-stop shop which provides a platform to ensure that ICT tools are deployed to schools/classrooms under a carefully structured learning environment, “equipped with internet connectivity to create virtual connectivity between students and teachers/lecturers involving the deployment of a robust content /curriculum development” he said.
On her part, Mrs. Florence Seriki Group Managing Director (GMD) Omatek affirmed that the launch of Omatek e-learning initiative will help to transform the education sector, as well as create the needed path towards achieving sustainable growth especially in the development of ICT in all cadres of schools across the country.
Mrs. Seriki further affirmed that the scheme is a holistic solution to consolidate the company’s position in the education sector. “The scheme will involve the provision of internet connectivity via the V-SAT technology with provision of hot-spots around schools, therefore creating an enabling environment for teachers and students to deploy their Wi-Fi connectivity” she said.
The Omatek GMD also asserts that e-Learning scheme is divided into modules for ease of deployment and these modules will help to streamline the processes where the practice of teaching and learning can enjoy intervention by the introduction of IT tools required to create an e-Learning environment across schools.
Mrs. Seriki affirmed that the e-learning scheme would help to create an enabling environment for further development of educational content and curriculum electronically by indigenous firms, “exploitation of local content with regards to technology in our classrooms and reduce/subvent the cost of ownership of computers to both teachers and students alike through the Omatek e-Xpress scheme, a flexible and convenient consumer acquisition scheme” she said.
As earlier reported, the hardware components of the Omatek e-learning scheme, the Omatek 8” and 10” Smartbooks are specially designed with 60gb hard disk space and 512mb and 1gb RAM respectively for students and teachers in the educational sector and equipped with robust Wi-Fi coverage, portable and come in various attractive colours.
Omatek confirms that an alternative computer is the 15.4” laptop for Teachers/Lectures.
“Also available under the scheme is the Omatek All-In-One compact PC which comes with a 14-17” flat screen with inbuilt CPU and Monitor. It is ideal for schools, computer/ ICT laboratories. The Omatek Compact comes with 80 gb HDD, combined PC and CPU, Wireless Mouse, Wi-Fi ready and its equipped with DVD Writer” the company affirms.
Omatek also officially unveiled other product offerings for the Education sector under the e-Learning scheme. These include the Omatek Bioflash finger - print Scanner(with password) - a security device to guard against theft; Omatek Hand-top Computer - a revolutionary 8 inch desktop computer equipped with a Wi-fi Wireless Keyboard and Omatek face Scanner, a security face recognition software.
