LAGOS, NIGERIA – 18 February 2011 – Access Bank Plc, (Bloomberg: ACCESS NL / Thomson Reuters: ACCESS.LG) (“Access Bank” or the “Bank”), the full service commercial bank with headquarters in Nigeria and operations across Sub-Saharan Africa and the United Kingdom, regrets to announce that it has had to suspend its operations in Cote d’Ivoire effective Monday 14 February 2011.
Notwithstanding the recent development in Cote d’Ivoire’s political and economic environment, the group’s subsidiary Access Bank Cote d’Ivoire has continued to provide services to its customers and the general public. However given the uncertainty around the banking regulatory framework and settlement system in the country and the unstable business conditions under which it has had to operate, Access Bank Cote d’Ivoire is no longer in the position to reliably conduct operations for its customers and to ensure the security of its staff.
In view of this, Access Bank Cote d’Ivoire has suspended its operations in the country. The Bank’s management will continue to monitor developments in the hope that a return to stability allows the resumptions of operations in Cote as soon as possible.
