With a view to improving the electricity and metering process of customers in Nigeria, the National Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) led the final consultation on the proposed Meter Asset Providers Regulation recently in Lagos.
The consultation brought together key stakeholders in the electricity sector, to deliberate extensively on the regulation.
NERC Nigeria had last year successfully conducted consultations on MAP across seven locations in the country.
In attendance at the forum were meter manufacturers; electricity distribution companies; Nigeria Electricity Management Services; leasing and project finance companies among other stakeholders.
The regulation is expected to bridge the wide metering gap in the Nigerian Electricity Supply Industry (NESI) and bring about innovations in the process of metering electricity customers.
This comes at a critical the Nigerian power sector is going through new level reforms that will drive efficiency in the system.
It is expected to create value for the electricity distribution companies and meter manufacturers in the country.
Mr Dafe Akpeneye Commissioner, Legal Licensing and Compliance National Electricity Regulatory Commission, anchored the final consultations.
A draft is expected from the consultation on the Meter Asset Providers Regulations for the Nigerian Power Sector.
