The Supreme Court this Morning affirmed Rt. Hon Aminu Tambuwal and Dr. Umar Ganduje as Governors of Sokoto and Kano state respectively.
In a unanimous decision of the seven-man panel led by the Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Ibrahim Tanko, the court dismissed the appeal of the Gubernatorial candidate of the All Progressive Congress (APC) in Sokoto State, Alhaji Ahmed Aliyu.
Delivering judgment, Justice Uwani Abba-Aji, said the appellant failed to prove that Governor Tambuwal did not comply with the electoral act in the country.
With the confirmation of Governor Tambuwal as the winner of the March 9th, 2019 elections, the Supreme Court's judgement removes the legal haze over Tambuwal's governorship.
Governor Aminu Tambuwal will be serving a second term in office with this legal victory.
Rt Hon Aminu Tambuwal was the former Speaker of the House of Representatives in the 7th National Assembly.
Also, the Supreme Court, in its ruling, dismissed the petition of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Gubernatorial candidate Mr. Abba Yusuf declaring Governor Abdullahi Ganduje as the winner of the Kano state elections.
In a unanimous decision delivered by Justice Sylvester Ngwuta, the Supreme Court insisted that the petition by the PDP candidate lacked merit.
It Court stated that the appellant failed to prove that the main and supplementary elections had irregularities.
