Victor Okhai is a 51-year old dynamic Nigerian who hails from Edo State, in the oil-rich South-South geo-political zone.
An accomplished film-maker, Okhai is a veteran broadcast journalist, with over thirty year experience in the media industry.
He has contributed immensely to the growth and development of the Nigeria movie industry (Nollywood), giving it global exposure.
Okhai attended Command Secondary School, Jos, Plateau State and is a graduate of Mass Communications from the University of Nigeria, Nsukka where he furthered his studies with a Master’s degree in Public Relations.
Mr Okhai’s quest to increase his knowledge led him to several institutions of higher learning, which includes; School of Media, Pan-African University (Certificate on Media Enterprise), University of Lagos (Diploma in Criminal Justice Administration), National Film and Television Institute (Certificate, Film Editing), Centre for Management (Post Graduate Diploma, Management) DW Akadamie, Berlin, Germany (Diploma, Events Management/film festival organization) and University of California, Los Angeles (Certificate in Film/Cinema and Video studies).
He was a guest at the American film market (2013), and has been a partner with the Goethe-Institute, Lagos since 1988.
The versatile and notable Nigerian is a producer, scriptwriter, director, cinematographer, freelance journalist and logistics provider for major international Film companies and TV networks including BBC, Aljazeera, CNN amongst others.
Other corporations/organizations Okhai has engaged are McKinsey, Oxfam, Human Rights Watch and Unilever.
Currently the Director of the International Film and Broadcast Academy Lagos, he is in great demand as a speaker and resource person on film locally and internationally.
The International Film and Broadcast Academy through the efforts of Victor Okhai has produced over 700 films in the entertainment space.
In 2007, he was invited by the German embassy in Abuja to deliver a paper on “The Role of Art, Film and Politics in Nigeria” during the visit of the German foreign Minister and some members of the German Parliament to Nigeria.
Also, in 2008 at BOBTV he presented the now classical reference material widely quoted and circulated on the internet; a paper titled “Emerging Talents - Nollywood and the new wave African cinema.” Later that year he was invited to Konrad Wolf university of film and television, Potsdam, to deliver a paper on Nollywood.
He was also invited to deliver a paper on Guerilla film distribution strategies -the Nollywood example in Pretoria SA, in 2008.
When the German President came visiting Nigeria in 2008, he was asked by Goethe Institut to do a paper on The Nollywood Phenomenon and present to the visiting dignitary and his team. He has also been a key Resource Person at a UNFPA workshop for scriptwriters in Nollywood on Enter-Educate drama and at another by the Dept. Of State of the US embassy in Nigeria.
Victor is one of the few Africans that has headed the panel of Judges, in International film festivals including Cairo, Fespaco and Schnitt International film festival.
He was Co-founder of the Directors’ Guild of Nigeria and has produced and directed several documentaries, movies and television series locally and internationally.
Mr Victor Okhai working with the Goethe-Institut has been hosting the International Short Film Festival in Nigeria, the first ever in the country and Sub-Saharan Africa.
From the media and entertainment Industry, he has developed a deep passion for politics and governance in Nigeria, which has crystallized into his ambition to lead the nation.
He believes Nigeria is witnessing a new dawn with the need for a significant shift in leadership, which requires young, vibrant and dynamic leaders in the country.
As a political and public affairs analyst, the veteran journalist brings a deep and incisive analysis to socio-political issues and features on major television stations like TVC and Silverbird TV.
Okhai is a Presidential aspirant under the Youth Democratic Party (YDP), and is consulting widely ahead of his planned declaration between May and June, 2018.
His message to Nigerians is “enough is enough” ahead of the 2019 general elections, and has stressed the need for the electorate to explore Option A3 which are parties like the YDP.
He is a recipient of the prestigious International Visitor’s Programme fellowship of the German Foreign Ministry and President, Lagos German Alumni Association.
Victor Okhai is married to Brydget Onyebuchi Okhai and they are blessed with four children; two boys and two girls.
