Nigeria’s ruling political party, the All Progressives Congress is set after almost three years at the helm of affairs to host its National Convention which has been scheduled for May, 2018.

The APC convention is seen by political analysts and social commentators as a defining moment for the party, considering the internal challenges it has endured.

This also comes at the time President Muhammadu Buhari has declared his intention to contest for a second term in the forthcoming 2019 general elections.

Considering several political gridlocks for the party in States like Kaduna, Kano, Rivers, Kogi, amongst others the ongoing reconciliation efforts led by Party leader Asiwaju Bola Tinubu will be crucial.

The APC which was the biggest political merger in the fourth republic, bringing together the defunct Action Congress of Nigeria, Congress for Progressive Change, a section of the All Progressives Grand Alliance and a section of aggrieved members of the People’s Democratic Party.

National Chairman of the Party Chief John Odigie-Oyegun who inaugurated the committee, was confident that they will conduct a hitch free convention that is credible.

He charged the committee to ensure a level playing field for anybody aspiring for an executive position in the party.

With the countdown to the convention, the committee has the task of ensuring a rejuvenated, coherent and strong party ahead of the 2019 elections.
