President-elect, Senator Joe Biden, says his core focus immediately after swearing in on January 20th, 2021 will be to carry out sweeping immigration reforms, ensure effective containment of the COVID-19 pandemic and implement comprehensive economic relief in the United States of America.

He made this point in a recent interaction with journalists on the pathway of his administration days after the U.S Congress certified his victory at the 2020 elections.

According to him top priority was to mitigate the risks of the coronavirus in the country, and work through his COVID-19 Taskforce to increase the vaccination process for citizens.

Biden was a former Vice President of the United States from 2008 to 2016, under former President Barack Obama of the Democratic Party.

With his party now in  control of the United States Congress ( Senate and House of Representatives), Senator Biden said he would send a comprehensive economic relief bill which would involve trillions of dollars, with $2,000 checks to households and businesses affected during the period.

Speaking further he said the economic relief would address issues of unemployment insurance and rent forbearance for citizens.

The President-elect highlighted the December Jobs report which showed that the country lost over 140,000 jobs across sectors while the unemployment rate remained at 6.7%.

In the area of immigration reforms, he stressed that it would be designed in a way that would address the challenges the country has faced in the past 4 years.

The United States of America is currently the country with the highest number  of COVID-19 cases, with over 22.6m cases and over 300,000 deaths.
