The All Progressives Congress Nigeria’s ruling party held its first national convention since it was elected into the realms of power in 2015, at the eagle square, Abuja.
It affirmed Comrade Adams Oshiomhole as the new National Chairman of the party taking over Chief John Odigie Oyegun.
At the event President Muhammadu Buhari, the Former Chairman Chief Odigie-Oyegun, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the new Chairman Comrade Adams Oshiomhole commended the party for the convention, but made a clarion call for a united and cohesive party in their separate speeches ahead of the 2019 general elections.
The convention was well attended by the Senate President Dr. Bukola Saraki, House Speaker Rt.Hon Yakubu Dogara and all the APC State Governors.
Despite the parallel congresses that held across the States in the federation, the convention showed a surprising show of unity, against all odds of a possible break-up of the party, due to various interests.
Interestingly the N-PDP faction attended the party convention sending a message of likely staying put in the party, despite their grievances.
One of the critical moments of the convention was a clash amongst delegates from Imo and Delta States, which took the intervention of the likes of Governor Yahaya Bello to bring back to normalcy.
All other positions of principal officers in the party were unopposed after the voting process at the convention.
Governor Mohammed Ahmed Badaru of Jigawa State was the Chairman of the 2018 APC Convention committee which had 63 other members coordinating a relatively successful event.
The list of all officers will be published in a related news report this week.
On its part the Peoples Democratic Party the main opposition party through its National Publicity Secretary Mr Kola Ologbondiyan described the APC convention as a charade and mockery of democracy.
