Former Vice-President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria Alhaji Atiku Abubakar today emerged the winner of the People’s Democratic Party Presidential primaries, for the forthcoming 2019 elections.

Atiku polled 1,532 votes to defeat his closest rival in the race Governor Aminu Tambuwal who got 693 votes.

The Adamawa State born politician will now face President Muhammadu Buhari in the 2019 general elections.

A businessman, politician, industrialist and philanthropist, Atiku is a strong believer in the restructuring of Nigeria.

Earlier this year Alhaji Atiku Abubakar defected from the All Progressives Congress party to the PDP, to pursue his Presidential ambition.

With his emergence analysts and politicians will watch closely who Atiku will pick as his running mate.

The results were announced by Governor Ifeanyi Okowa of Delta State and Governor Dave Umahi of Ebonyi  state respectively.

In his acceptance speech Alhaji Atiku Abubakar commended the convention committee for hosting a hitch-free primary, and promised to restore Nigeria’s economy to greatness, if he is elected President.

He was born November 25, 1946 in Jada, Adamawa State and is married with children.

Atiku has developed a robust economic plan which some economists and policy experts, have described as pragmatic and effective for moving Nigeria’s economy forward.
