#OsunDecides2018: INEC Declares Guber Elections Inconclusive, Fixes September 27 for Rerun

The Independent National Electoral Commission this afternoon declared the September 22nd, 2018 Osun Gubernatorial elections inconclusive, at the collation centre in Osogbo. 

In what has been described as a keenly contested election the candidate of the Peoples  Democratic Party Senator Ademola Adeleke polled 254, 698 votes ahead of the All Progressives Congress Party candidate Mr Gboyega Oyetola who had 254,345 votes.

 The difference was 353 votes and the  PDP candidate would have been declared the winner, but for the cancelled votes in the elections which totalled 3,498. 

Chief Returning Officer for Osun State Professor Joseph Afuwape and Vice-Chancellor, Federal University of Technology, Akure while making the final announcement said due to the irregularities, ballot box snatching and card reader malfunctioning at some polling units in Ife North, Ife South and Orolu local government areas led to the cancelled votes. 

September 27th, 2018 has been fixed by INEC Nigeria as the date for the rerun elections which is in the next 4 days. 

Senator Iyiola Omisore of the Social Democratic Party emerged  third runner in the guber elections with 128, 049 votes. 

The re-run is between Senator of the Peoples Democratic Party and Mr Gboyega Oyetola of the All Progressives Congress Party.
