The Speaker of the House of Representatives Rt. Hon Yakubu Dogara has made an official statement on reports that he has defected to the People’s Democratic Party.

Verified from his official twitter handle, the Speaker confirmed yesterday that he received the nomination form for the House of Representatives of the PDP, from his constituents.

The Speaker said representing his people has been an honour and  no one should have to suffer the indignity of begging before being allowed to exercise a constitutional right.

Speaking further Rt. Hon Dogara shared that he had even considered stepping aside as he served for 12 years, but will heed the call of his constituents and seek re-election.

According to him “I feel deeply honoured by this kind gesture; however, I will not fill this form until I have consulted with those supporters who remain in APC. I thank my people for their unwavering support so far, and remain unshaken in my belief that all power belongs to God”.

Speaker Rt. Hon Dogara represents the Bogoro/Dass Federal Constituency and has been a member of the House of Representatives since 2007.
