#AnambraDecides2017:Obiano wins 2nd term, confirms NCCN prediction

Governor Willie Obiano of the All Progressive Grand Alliance Party on Sunday, November 19, 2017 emerged victorious at the 2017 Gubernatorial elections polling 234,071 votes to be declared the winner of the election, by the Chief Returning Officer Prof Zana Akpagu (Vice-Chancellor of the University of Calabar).

Obiano defeated his fellow contestants Hon Tony Nwoye of the All Progressives Congress who came second with 98, 752 votes and Dr Oseloka Obaze of the Peoples Democratic Party who polled 70, 293 votes to be the third in the polls.

It was a landslide victory as Governor Obiano clinched all the 21 Local Government Areas in the elections and the results announced.

From the analysis a Total of 2.6ml voters were registered, while 457,311 got accreditation and the total valid votes for the polls was 422,314.

The total votes cast for the elections was 448, 771 and rejected votes according to the Chief Returning Officer was 26,457.

In his message Governor Obiano dedicated the victory to all Anambra Citizens and pledged to work assiduously to take the States to greater heights in various sectors, and called on his fellow contestants to join him in repositioning Anambra.

He thanked President Muhammadu Buhari and all critical stakeholders for ensuring that the electioneering processs was free and fair.

Observer groups noted that the elections was relatively peaceful across the State, but identified some form of electoral malpractice like vote buying at the polling centres, by some of the political parties.

The UPP Guber candidate Mr Osita Chidoka in his concession speech, thanked all his supporters and congratulated Governor Obiano but admitted that he lost to the financial firepower of political parties in the polls.

Chief Godwin Ezeemo of the PPA also congratulated Governor Obiano on his victory, while the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party Dr Oseloka Obaze rejected the results, saying it was not a true reflection of what transpired during the elections.

On their part the South-Eastern Governors Forum and Governor Ayodele Fayose of Anambra State have congratulated Governor Willie Obiano on his victory in the polls.

With his victory, Governor Obiano will have the task of ensuring that Anambra State is position as a highly competitive Sub-National in the country, particularly focusing on areas like Institutions, Government Contracting Process and Ease of Doing Business.
