VP Osinbajo presides over the launch of Jim Ovia’s “Africa Rise and Shine” Book

Vice-President Professor Yemi Osinbajo, SAN today led political and business leaders in Nigeria to launch the book “Africa Rise & Shine” a book that brings the story of businessman, banker and entrepreneur Mr Jim Ovia. 

Mr Jim Ovia who is the Chairman of Zenith Bank Plc one of the leading banking groups, leads a conglomerate of flourishing enterprises from real estate to the ICT,  that are currently valued at $16bn. 

The Vice President described Mr Ovia as a humble and hardworking Nigerian who has invested in education and the training of thousands of entrepreneurs in the country. 

Osinbajo particularly lauded the Zenith Bank Chairman for his current leadership of the North-East Children Fund, which is empowering less-privileged children in Maidugri, Borno State. 

He celebrated the leadership legacy of Mr Ovia, that paved the way for strategic leaders like Mr Godwin Emefiele, Central Bank of Nigeria Governor, Mr Udom Emmanuel, Governor-Akwa Ibom State and Alhaji Kashim Shettima, Governor-Borno State. 

In his opening remarks at the event, the Chairman of the occasion Dr. Christopher Kolade believed Mr Jim Ovia had touched many lives through his business leadership. 

According to him “I am happy to witness Africa’s rising from a dark continent to a region of immense possibilities. 

Book reviewers namely; Mr John Momoh, Chairman Channels Television, Professor Koyinsola Ajayi, Senior Partner Olaniwun Ajayi & Co, Mrs Folorunso Alakija, Mr Tony. O. Elumelu, Chairman Heirs Holding, Halima Dangote(representing Alhaji Aliko Dangote), Professor Fabian Ajogwu, SAN President, Society for Corporate Governance in Nigeria, Professor Ibidapo Obe, Former Vice-Chancellor University of Lagos and Mr Aigboje Aig-Imoukhuede, Chairman Coronation Merchant Bank and Mr Nduka Obaigbena, Chairman Thisday Newspapers extolled the qualities and virtues of Mr Ovia, describing as an outstanding African. 

For the political leaders it was a tribute to a man that changed the narrative of Nigeria and Africa through the financial services and technology space. 

Some of the leaders who gave their goodwill messages at the book launch include; Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, National Leader All Progressives Congress, Governors Akinwunmi Ambode, Lagos, Kashim Shettima, Borno and Udom Emmanuel, Akwa Ibom. 

The Central Bank Governor Mr Godwin Emefiele commended Mr Ovia for his impeccable leadership and pursuit of excellence. 

Giving her remarks the wife of the dynamic business leader Mrs Kay Ovia praised her husband for his strides and reassured him of her love and the support of the children. 

In his response Mr Jim Ovia thanked his family, friends and associates for the honour of attending the book launch, and shared that the book was written to give a new narrative to Africa.

 He asserted that Africa had transited from a dark continent muddled in crisis, to one with an improved GDP per capita income of $1,000, increasing broadband penetration and digital technology adoption and a democratic continent with no country at the moment under military rule. 

Other notable political leaders that attended the event include; Comrade Adams Oshiomhole, National Chairman All Progressives Congress, Senator Ifeanyi Okowa, Governor-Delta, Mr Darius Ishaku, Governor-Taraba, Mr Rotimi Akeredolu, Governor-Ondo State, Dr John Kayode Fayemi, Governor-elect Ekiti , Mr Adebayo Shittu, Minister for ICT, Dr Emmanuel Ibe Kachikwu, Minister of State, Petroleum Resources, amongst others.
