PWC lauds ingenuity of Nigerian journalists, at 2017 media excellence awards

Price Water House Coopers Nigeria a professional services firm has lauded Nigerian journalists for their ingenuity, courage, and commitment to bringing quality reporting and analysis to the Nigerian business environment and economy.

The Country Manager and Senior Partner of PWC Nigeria Mr Uyi Akpata shared this at the 2017 Media excellence awards in Lagos.

Mr Akpata said the awards was designed by PWC, to partner with the Nigerian media, in the development of the economy.

According to him "The media excellence awards is designed to motivate journalists, to take interest in business reporting". He commended the improvement in participation from last year, and the quality of content in articles submitted for the awards.

Giving an overview on the awards Mr Taiwo Oyedele Head, Tax & Regulatory, PWC Nigeria said it covered four categories namely; Capital Market, SMEs, Business & Economy and Taxation.

Mr Oyedele also listed the criteria for the selection of the awardees, which include; originality, grammar/language skill, quality of research/insight and balance of article.

The Business and Economy category  had 45 articles, as the highest number of entries for the 2017 awards.

Victor Ekwealor of Techpoint emerged the winner of the Business and Economy category, while Collins Nweze of the Nation newspapers clinched the award for the Taxation category.

For the Capital Market section Nkiruka Nnorom of Vanguard newspapers emerged the winner and Isaac Anyaogu of BusinessDay newspapers was the prize winner for the SMEs space.

All the awardees got a cash prize of N500,000 each from PWC Nigeria in an event that was graced by veteran Journalist, Mr Sonnie Irabor and Dr Andrew Nevin (Chief Economist, PWC Nigeria)  who were among the judges.
