Although the forces that drive executive compensation in Nigeria cannot be determined, to some extent we can say that there is some link between the CEO's compensation and Shareholder value creation.

Shareholder's value creation is evident in the increase in earnings, profit, dividend payments, etc.  Aligning shareholder's value creation and executive pay further buttresses the pay for performance mantra in Nigeria.

Top firms such as MTN, Nestle, Seplat, and GT Bank paid dividends and recorded an increase in their earnings per share in 2018 and 2019. The increase in their dividend payments and earnings per share justifies the huge pay received by their CEOs.
