Dangote Foundation has been described as the single largest donor to the reconstruction efforts of Borno State, post-insurgency era.
This was the statement of Governor Kashim Shettima at the 2017 Ramadan season food distribution flag off, powered by the Foundation in Maidugri.
Governor Shettima said the Foundation was a major supporter of the Borno State government’s effort in the rehabilitation and resettlement of the Internally Displaced Persons(IDPs) in the State.
According to Governor Shettima, there is an ongoing project of 200 housing units construction, that should provide shelter to over 2,000 IDPs when completed in Maidugri, by July 2017. He also shared that some of the building materials provided will be used for the resettlement projects in areas like Bama and Damasak.
The Governor lauded the initiative of providing foodstuffs to the beneficiaries for the Ramadan season, as it will go a long way in bringing succour to homes ravaged by insurgency.
He used the occasion to appeal to wealthy and influential Nigerians to emulate the gesture and philanthropy of Billionaire Business Icon Alhaji Aliko Dangote, the founder of foundation, by supporting Borno State and the North-East region of Nigeria.
In his remarks at the event, the Chairman of the State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) Engineer Satomi Ahmed lauded the Dangote Foundation for its role in ameliorating the humanitarian crisis in the State.
Engineer Ahmed noted that for the year 2017 Ramadan season 371,000 beneficiaries will receive foodstuffs, that will help cushion the hardship being experienced by IDPs in the area of feeding and proper nutrition.
CEO of Dangote Foundation Zouera Youssofou in her remarks restated the commitment of the organization to supporting Borno State in its reconstruction, rehabilitation and resettlement efforts for the IDPs.
She said the visioner of the foundation Alhaji Aliko Dangote remains passionate about real-time interventions in Borno State and the North-East region, that will touch the lives of people devastated by the insurgency.
