Sterling Bank has announced the finalists in the ongoing second season of its “MEET THE EXECUTIVE” (MTE) initiative; a business plan competition with opportunities for winners to access grants to finance their business.
The 11 contestants from the MTE competition are Mene Blessing, Adeoye Samuel, Confidence Odionye, Mobolaji Kosoko, Emmanuel Marchie, Osanebi Peter Edward, BabajideIpaye, Oyebamiji Ayodeji, Idongesit Harrison Umoh, Bernard Ojuwoye and Ezenachukwu Michael.
The Bank had earlier announced in January the commencement of the second edition of the competition as part of its efforts at encouraging entrepreneurship. MTE is a social media-led Initiative geared towards encouraging and supporting small businesses and budding entrepreneurs. The initiative kicked off in November where over 1,200 interested participants submitted their business ideas and plans. This was followed by a quality review conducted by an independent consultant- HT Limited. This phase produced 50 participants who proceeded for training.
After this training, 11 top entrepreneurs emerged having been rated on their rewritten business plans, business feasibility and several other factors. They would be joining 14 other qualified entrepreneurs who had participated in the Bank’s Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME) Academy last October for the final presentation to the “Executives”.
The 14 other entrepreneurs from the MSME Academy that would also be presenting to the “executives”are Olubunmi Jinadu, Oladipo Akinsiun, Babatunde Oladoja, Anyamaeme Ginikachukwu, Abiodun Odenuga, Adeyemo, Florence Shekoni, Sam Ajuyah, Anuoluwapo Akinola, Olajumoke Akinwale-Oguntimehin, Teni Majekodunmi, Rotimi Olukorede, Akunna Udunna, and Olayinka Osoba.
The presentation which is the final phase of the competition would be taking place on Tuesday, April 6th, 2016. The 25 entrepreneurs would present their revised business plans to a panel comprising top executives of the Bank, judges and venture capitalists to win a total of N6m worth of grants.
Speaking on the selection of the finalists, the Bank’s Group Head, Strategy & Communications, Mr. Shina Atilola indicated that the goal of the programme is to bring to the fore the creative, innovative and brilliant ideas housed by Nigerians. Hence the contestants are entrepreneurs with business interests ranging from innovative technology start-ups, agriculture to other economic activities.
Over the last 3 years, Sterling Bank has driven SME inclined initiatives with programmes such as the MTE which traces its roots to its first season in January, 2014. Similarly, the Bank would in April be kicking off the 2016 edition of the MSME Academy scheduled to take place nationwide.
