As part of activities to mark its 125th
Anniversary, Nigeria’s premier financial institution First Bank organized a
125km relay walk across its branches and operations in the globe.
It was a colourful and power-packed event
as the usual corporate look of the management and staff of the bank, changed to
branded shirts and sports wears.
Customers of First Bank and stakeholders
in the financial market also joined in the relay walk, with each person walking
at least 1.25km with their various teams from different locations, to make up
the 125km.
The relay walk kicked off across the First
Bank locations from 7.00am and ended by 8.30am with all the subsidiaries of the
larger FBN Holdings group participating fully.
At the end of each walk in each location, teams
symbolically passed batons committing to the cause that will take the banking
Group to the next 125 years.
At the grand finale session of the 125km
relay walk in Marina, the MD/CEO of First Bank Nigeria Dr. Adesola Adeduntan
said the walk signified the continuous transformation that has occurred in the
banking group.
Dr Adeduntan said the emphasis was on
people and partnership, that are part of the driving force and values of the
bank.
He also stressed the fact that synergy was
another element in the FBN operations, which has seen the bank transform into a
leading financial institution in Sub-Saharan Africa.
Chairman of First Bank Mrs Ibukun Awosika
praised the team spirit and resilience of the banking group,that has seen it
survive various phases and disruptions in the financial services industry.
She charged the staff of the bank to
sustain the drive for excellence in customer experience and efficient financial
services operations.
The Group Managing Director of FBN
Holdings Plc Mr U.K Eke in his remarks asserted that the relay walk was
to drive the point of collaboration and synergy within the financial
institution, which has seen it to grow and expand its operations across the
globe.
It was a fun-filled grand finale session
anchored by popular Nigerian OAP Oladotun Ojuolape Kayode a.k.a “DO2dTun”.
At the end of the event FBN 125km walk,
Team Surulere headed by Mr Seyi Oyefeso, Group Head, Commercial Banking Group
emerged overall winners, while Team Ikoyi headed by Mr Kayode Akinkugbe, MD,
FBN Quest came second with the third position going to Team Maryland headed by
Dr. Remi Oni Executive Director, Corporate Banking.
