NJC Gives Onnoghen, Muhammad 7 Days to Respond to Petitions

The National Judicial Council today ended its emergency meeting with the decision that the suspended Chief Justice of Nigeria Justice Walter Onnoghen and the Acting Chief Justice Ibrahim Tanko Muhammad, will both have seven (7) days to respond to the petitions laid against them.


In a statement signed by the Director of Information Mr Soji Oye, Esq the council also referred the petition against the Chairman of the Code of Conduct Tribunal Hon. Danladi Umar to the Federal Judicial Service Commission.


The meeting was chaired by Justice Umaru Abdullahi , CON former President of the Court of Appeal.


Both Justice Walter Onnoghen and Justice Ibrahim Tanko Muhammad were absent at the meeting.


The NJC will reconvene on the 11th of February, 2019 .


Last week Friday acting on an exparte-order of the Code of Conduct Tribunal President Muhammadu Buhari suspended the Chief Justice of the Federation Justice Walter Onnoghen, over his ongoing trial on non-disclosure of some of his assets.


Justice Ibrahim Muhammad was appointed as the Acting Chief Justice and the decision received widespread criticism and support from various parts of the country, with concerns raised by major foreign missions.
