Guest Profile:
Malachy Ugwummadu is a
notable Nigerian Civil Rights Lawyer, Human Rights Activist and Social
Commentator on National Issues.
He was the immediate Past
President of the Committee for Defence of Human Rights, CDHR and also served as
the former General Secretary of the same organization.
Ugwummadu was the former
Deputy National Secretary of the Joint Action of Nigeria, JACON that played a
coordinated role in seeking for democratic governance in Nigeria, after the
annulment of June 12, 1993 Presidential elections by then Military President
Gen. Ibrahim Babangida(Rtd).
He was part of the robust
resistance movement to the repressive and dictatorial leadership under
the military junta of Late General Sani Abacha (1993-1998).
Mr Malachy Ugwummadu can
be described as one of the great advocates of the democratic era Nigeria
is experiencing today.
He is the Managing Partner
at Malachy Ugwummadu Chambers and served as a Former Counsel at Falana and
Falana Chambers.
The seasoned lawyer is a
member of the Chartered Institute of Portfolio Management and also worked
as Legal Adviser, University of Nigeria Alumni Association.
