The Independent National Electoral Commission has resolved to provide daily media briefing on the 2019 General elections, till the scheduled dates.

Chairman of INEC Professor Mahmood  Yakubu  disclosed this at the end of a press conference on the state of affairs for the forthcoming general elections.

According to the Chairman, there will be daily media briefings by 3pm to give updates on the developments around the elections.

On the statement credited to President Muhammadu Buhari, that those who seek to “snatch ballot boxes will be doing so at the expense of their lives”, Mahmood  differed by saying that electoral offenders will be punished according to the provisions of the electoral act.

The INEC boss reassured that the Commission will continue to carry out its role of conducting elections, serving as an independent and constitutional body.

Yesterday INEC after its consultative meeting rescinded its initial decision to place a ban on political campaigns, ahead of February 23rd Presidential/National Assembly elections.

Political parties can now their resume carry out their campaigns and activities
