2019 Elections: NASS Joint Committee Approves N143bn Budget for INEC

The Joint Committee of the National Assembly on the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC today at the end of its executive session approved the N143bn budget proposal sent to it by President Muhammadu Buhari, for the 2019 general elections. 

Chairman of the Committee Senator Suleiman Nazif in a statement said in line with the approval, the Electoral commission has been directed to represent the N143bn instead of the N189bn presented to the National Assembly by INEC. 

Senator Nazif on behalf of the committee adjourned the session till Tuesday August 28, 2018 to enable the INEC executive return to present the approved budget, with the necessary breakdown. 

According to Senator Nazif  “INEC is expected to re-present the N143bn as requested by Mr. President. INEC has an opportunity to reprioritise and appear before the Committee tomorrow by 1pm."
