Lina TONUI - Project Manager, African Exchanges Linkage Project (AELP)

Topic: The Case for a Unified Exchange

 

Ms. Tonui is Project Manager for the African Exchanges Linkage Project, a joint venture of the African Securities Exchanges Association and the African Development Bank. She has over 15 years of experience in the investment industry, capital markets and project management.

 

Prior to joining ASEA she worked at US-based investment firms, Holland Capital Management and William Blair and Company, Chicago. Prior to that she worked in Deliveries and Settlement at the Nairobi Securities Exchange. She holds a Master's degree in Finance from the University of Wollongong, Australia, and a Bachelor's degree in Commerce, Accounting and Business Administration from Daystar University, Nairobi, Kenya.

1.Haruna JALO-WAZIRI - Managing Director/CEO, CSCS Plc

Topic: Improving Financial Market Infrastructures to facilitate Securities Trading

 

Mr. Haruna Jalo-Waziri is the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Central Securities Clearing System Plc (CSCS), a position he assumed in November 2017. He has overall responsibility for delivering on the company's vision and mission. Since taking over at the helm, he has driven a number of strategic initiatives, leading to notable efficiency gains and repositioning the company for sustainable growth.

 

Mr. Jalo-Waziri has three decades hands-on experience across multiple financial disciplines, with a career spanning Investment Banking, Securities Trading, Pension Funds Administration and conventional Asset Management, Business development and Regulation. He is an award- winning Executive, with reputable track record in leading successful start-ups and business transformations.

 

Prior to being appointed Chief Executive Officer of CSCS Plc, he was Executive Director, Capital Markets at the Nigerian Stock Exchange, with primary responsibility for deepening the market through products, market structure innovation and new listings, as well as generating order flow across all asset classes. Under his stewardship, the partnership between the NSE and the London Stock Exchange was established, an alliance which has birthed a number of dual listings on these Bourses. He led the launch of the Premium Board on the NSE, distinguishing value companies with strong governance practices and creating enhanced liquidity flow for the counters. He also led the introduction of the Nigerian Sovereign Green Bond as well as the Federal Government Retail Savings Bonds. Mr. Jalo-Waziri previously served as Managing Director/Chief Executive at both UBA Stockbrokers Limited and UBA Asset Management Limited, transforming the businesses to becoming top-5 in their respective segments. He also pioneered the asset management business of Kakawa Discount House Limited (now FBN Merchant Bank) and previously worked at the Securities and Exchange Commission.

 

Mr. Jalo-Waziri is a Director on the Board of NG Clearing Limited and the Board of Special Olympics Nigeria. He is on the Advisory Board of Business Day and currently serves as Vice President of the AIFA Reading Society, an NGO, which focuses on promotion of a reading culture and sustainable development of the educational system in Africa. He has served on the Boards of several companies, including FSDH Merchant Bank Limited, Nigeria-German Chemicals Plc, Protea Oakwood Hotel Limited, Coral Properties Limited, UBA Stockbrokers Limited and UBA Asset Management Limited to mention a few. He is a life member of the Institute of Directors.

 

Mr. Jalo-Waziri is an economist, and an alumnus of reputable institutions, including the Lagos Business School and Venture Capital Institute of America. He holds a first degree and MBA from the University of Maiduguri and the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University respectively.

 

2.  Emmanuel OGUNJI - Chief Finance Officer, eTranzact International Plc      

Topic: Technology as a driver of financial market transactions

 

Emmanuel Ogunji is currently the Chief Finance Officer at eTranzact International Plc, Africa's premier e-payment solution provider. Emmanuel rose through the rank as an astute financial service leader with over 15 years' experience.  Having built an extensive experience spanning a wide range of practice in hospitality and service industry, transaction switching operations, corporate and investment financing, Ogunji literally speaks and breathes finance.

 

As a Fintech Enthusiast, Emmanuel plays an active role in the finance analysis and valuation of developing high-quality financial models. He also provides investment advisory to management and shareholder teams on a large set of financial matter such as mergers and acquisitions initiatives, potential opportunities, and financial due diligence.


He further defines appropriate capital structures for business arrangements while keeping in mind the business needs, risk management taxation, accounting, and legal/policy requirements.

 

Emmanuel is a Fellow Member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN), with Masters in Business Administration and has been recognized as one of the most valuable players the industry has ever had. He is married with kids, and keen lover of landscape photography and leisure travel.

 


3. Bola AJOMALE - Managing Director/CEO, NASD Plc

Topic: Trading in Primary & Secondary Markets using Technology: Trends & Opportunities

 

Bola is the pioneer Managing Director of NASD PLC. Bola is a highly versatile investment and financial adviser with over 20 years' cognate experience in the finance industry both locally and internationally. He trained as an accountant in Ernst & Young and as a stockbroker in City Securities Limited where he headed Stockbroking operations. He expanded his research and financial advisory skills at Agusto & Co where he was a Senior business consultant. His international exposure includes various project and investment advisory work at Manulife Financial and Canada Pension Plan Investment Board both in Canada.

 

Bola read Economics at the University of Leeds (UK). He is a Fellow and member of Council of the Chartered Institute of Stockbrokers (CIS), a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN) and a Member of the Chartered Institute for Securities and Investments (CISI UK) where he is the inaugural National Advisory Council President.  He sits in a non-executive capacity on the Boards of directors of several non-public companies and is a Trustee of the Association of Securities Exchanges of Nigeria.

4. Tumi SEKONI - Managing Director, FMDQ Securities Exchange Limited

Topic: Fixed Income Market Trading & Technology: Trends & Opportunities

 

Ms. Sekoni is the Managing Director of FMDQ Exchange. She also serves as a Non-Executive Director on the Boards of FMDQ Clear Limited, FMDQ Depository Limited, FMDQ Private Markets Limited and iQx Consult Limited.

 

Over the last twenty (20) years, Ms. Sekoni has built her career across Trading, Operations, Business Analysis, Business Development, Products & Markets Development, Marketing and Project Management in various organisations including Guaranty Trust Bank PLC, Goldman Sachs International, UBS, London and Merrill Lynch.

 

5.  Oluwafunto OLASEMO - Vice President, Financial Market, AFEX Nigeria          

Topic: Commodities Market Trading and Technology: Trends & Opportunities

 

Oluwafunto is a market development expert with over 9 years work experience in delivering financial service solutions to medium and large enterprises. Adept at identifying strategic measures to strengthen operational performance, Oluwafunto has a strong reputation of effectively managing multiple clients' engagement through all phases of product development, research, strategic planning, campaign testing and post-go-live.

 

Oluwafunto is the current Vice President, Financial Markets at AFEX, where she leads engagement with Capital Market Operators and Financial Institution to unlock funding for smallholder farmers and create portfolio products backed by commodities as alternative asset class for investors.  Recently, she was involved in raising over a billion naira in funds that will provide 25,000 smallholder farmers quality input for the 2020 planting season.

 

6. Rolu ADEOLA - Chief Customer Experience Officer, CFS West Africa           

Topic: Customer Experience as a Critical Element for Platform development

 

Rolu Adebola is the Managing Director of CFS West Africa Limited, a leading Customer Experience Advisory and Technology firm in West Africa. Before joining CFS, he worked as a consultant with Alliance Consulting (the consulting arm of Agusto & Co) and also Deloitte Nigeria. Mr Adebola has over 16 years' experience consulting for various clients in the financial services industry in Customer Experience, Service Improvement, Corporate Strategy and Transformation. He has also led CFS to assist several banks, telecommunications companies, retail businesses, healthcare and pharmaceuticals to improve the quality of their customer experience and service delivery.

 

Mr. Adebola is a leading influence on the Customer Experience practice in Nigeria. He holds the prestigious CCXP Certification from the globally recognized Customer Experience Professional Association (CXPA), being the first Nigerian to hold the certification since 2016. Mr. Adebola is also a certified corporate CX maturity assessor with the Customer Institute, a leading international institute of independent global CX consultants. Mr. Adebola previously started the CXPA local network in Nigeria and Ghana and served as the Local Network Team Lead for Nigeria. He was also a member of the Corporate Advisory Board of the CXPA. He is a seasoned CX transformation specialist and is constantly attracted to new business challenges and motivated by the opportunity to solve business problems.

 


7. Saheed KIARIBE - Director of Research, Proshare

Insights from the Report and Customer Surveys

 

Saheed is a financial market enthusiast who joined Proshare over ten years ago to sort out and develop the data, research and financial analysis function. He came in with a B.Sc degree in Political Science from Olabisi Onabanjo University Ago-Iwoye (2005) and was part of our experiment to bring in outsiders to change the collation, processing and presentation of data related to the markets.

 

He has since, while delivering on this difficult assignment that required a bridge between tradition and the digital world, obtained an MBA in Marketing Management from Ladoke Akintola University of Technology, Ogbomosho. He is today, an associate member of the Institute of Capital Market Registrars (2010) and a keen student in other knowledge empowering institutes where he is pursuing formal qualifications.

 

Saheed is a devoted professional whose only interest in is the provision of credible data for decision making, having learnt the value of data from his starting role with Intercontinental Registrars Ltd in May 2007 where he worked in the verification unit. The firm, recognising his application and self motivation, caused for him to be transferred to the Stock Broking Unit of the firm; from where he joined Proshare Nigeria Ltd in March 2010; after almost three years of service at the Registrars Unit.

 

Since his engagement, he has attended multiple professional training, workshop and conferences on financial analysis, data analytics, artificial intelligence, and advanced research operations which has come in handy is delivering on the national assignment of managing the production of and dissemination of critical national economic and market intelligence including those of the Nigerian Bureau of Statistics (NBS) Report; Corporate Data and data for the Nigerian Capital Market.
