Nigeria is currently facing a burden of rising poverty which the current administration has set a goal of lifting 100m citizens from the doldrum in a decade. The debate will bring to the fore the critical issues around poverty and the best options for policymakers.

The summit, which will focus on the theme "Securing Our Future: The Fierce Urgency of Now", will retain the hybrid format adopted in 2020.

Last year's hybrid format gave the 26th NES wider reach, and this would be sustained for the 27th edition, she noted.

She said the decision to invite the former Prime Minister of Ethiopia, H.E Haile Mariam Desalegn Boshe, as a keynote speaker was because of his accomplishments as a distinguished leader in the region.

For the sub-themes at the summit, she mentioned five critical areas of focus, namely;

  1. High and Sustained Growth
  2. National Security
  3. Quality of Life
  4. Digital Transformation
  5. Political Economy

Apart from the five (5) sub-themes, the summit will also feature roundtable sessions on the entertainment industry, clean energy, & the micro, small and medium enterprises, MSMEs.

The technical committee member for NES27 also stated that the summit would showcase technology and catalyze the economy's growth.

Speaking on youth participation, Aisha Waziri Ahmed noted that the Nigerian Economic Summit Group, NESG, has intentionally engaged them and provided a platform to articulate their views on nation-building.

She reiterated the commitment of NESG to deepening the conversation with the youth, from millennials to GENZs and the women. They are also crucial in the process of socio-economic development.

On the concerns of political will to implement communique recommendations, she acknowledged that there had been reform of economic policies due to inputs from the NESG.

The technocrat believed the public sector remains critical to implementing policy reforms, and the NESG will continue to partner with the Ministries, Departments and Agencies, MDAs.

The Nigerian Economic Summit is the largest annual gathering of public and private sector players in the country. It provides the platform for addressing critical socio-economic issues and charting a pathway for moving the nation forward. It is promoted by the Nigerian Economic Summit Group (NESG).

President Muhammadu Buhari, GCFR and Vice President Prof. Yemi Osinbajo, SAN, GCON, will attend the summit, which will feature over one hundred speakers.
