From the Editor’s Desk

According to the FMDQ, the total amount of foreign exchange (FOREX) traded in the month December 2017 stood at $12.86 billion, a 14.7% slip compare to the previous month of November. The fall in foreign exchange traded in the December resulted from lean activity in derivatives as well as a reduction in the central bank’s activity in the foreign exchange market.

However, the total amount of foreign exchange sale in 2017 stood at $119.09 billion, thereby making it a 14.9% increase compare to 2016. The buoyancy in foreign exchange sale was due to improvement in oil receipt and the introduction of the investors and exchange window. Thus the combination of improved quantity and an exchange channel to allow for dollar ventilation rubbed positively on the market.
