Market Commentary

With system liquidity still fairly healthy, the Interbank Call rate declined by 50bps to 4.00%.

Meanwhile, trading was relatively positive in the T-bills secondary market, with buying pressure observed at the mid to long end and average yield on T-bills declining by 5bps (-32bps w/w). Trading in the bond market was also positive, with average yield on benchmark bonds declining by 17bps (-34bps w/w). Notably, buying activity observed on the 16.39% FGN JAN 2022 bond, which saw a 90bps decline in its yield.

Market Outlook

Next week, investors will continue to purchase secondary market notes and bonds, should the CBN continue to hold off on conducting OMO auctions. Therefore, we foresee a mixed session on Monday with a bullish tilt in both the T-bills and bond markets.
