Market Commentary

In spite of system liquidity being at a healthy level of ?365 billion, the Interbank Call rate advanced 564bps to 11.93%.

The fixed income market traded largely positive today as demand from yesterday’s OMO filtered into the space (oversubscribed by ?399billion). Yields in both the T-bills market and bond space declined, with average yields in the T-bills space, declining 34bps (-64bps w/w), while benchmark bond yields declined 6bps on average (-8bps w/w). Yields on several papers declined 50bps+, most notably the 97DTM witnessed a decline of 124bps. Meanwhile, in the bond space, yield on the 14.50% 15 JUL 2021 declined 94bps (-58bps w/w).

Market Outlook

With the DMO expected to hold an auction next week where they plan to offer ?145 billion across 5-year, 10-year, and 30-year bonds, in addition to the MPC meeting slated for Monday and Tuesday. We expect traders to trade cautiously at the start of the week, therefore we foresee a mixed session in the space on Monday with a positive tilt.
