Recently, the National Bureau of Statisticsreleased the Inflation figures for August 2017. Core inflation eased marginally from 12.30% in July to 12.20% for the month of August, maintaining its downward trajectory. Food inflation dropped from 20.28% in the month of July to 20.25% in the month of August. Despite the drop, Nigeria is still one of the countries with the highest food inflation in Sub-Saharan Africa, along with Angola, Egypt and South Sudan.
Moreover headline inflation slimed down at a slower pace from 16.05% in July to 16.01% in August, indicating the exhaustion in base effect and growing weight of the food sub sector on the entire inflation composite.
