CIBN to host 11th Annual Banking and Finance Conference

As preparations assume a crescendo, the Chartered Institute of Bankers of Nigeria (CIBN) is set to host the 11th Annual Banking and Finance Conference scheduled for September 11 & 12, 2018 at the Congress Hall of the Transcorp Hilton Hotel, Abuja. The Annual Banking and Finance Conference is the flagship event of CIBN, hosted annually to provide a platform for all stakeholders in the banking and finance industry which include policy makers, regulators, operators, clients in the industry, etc. to share experiences and exchange ideas on contemporary issues affecting the banking and finance sector and the economy as a whole. 

This year’s Conference, which is the eleventh edition, is themed: “MSMEs: The Game Changer for Economic Growth and Development”. The event is expected to attract over 500 professionals, comprising, Managing Directors/Chief Executives, Senior Executives, Millennials from the banking and financial institutions, players in the Micro, Small and Medium scale businesses as well as the academic community. The choice of the theme is predicated on the need to generate new ideas, innovations and strategies to address the funding gaps for MSMEs towards engendering economic growth and development in the country. 

The Conference will be declared open by His Excellency, Professor Yemi Osinbajo, GCON, the Vice President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, while the Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Mr. Godwin Emefiele, CON, FCIB will deliver the Keynote Address at the Opening Ceremony. 

Other dignitaries expected at the Conference are His Excellency, Nana Addo Dankwe Akufo-Addo, President, Republic of Ghana; Dr. Okechukwu Enelamah, Honourable Minister for Industry, Trade & Investment Federal Republic of Nigeria; Dr. Ogbonnaya Onu, Honourable Minister of Technology, Federal Republic of Nigeria; Alhaji Umaru Ibrahim, Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer, Nigeria Deposit and Insurance Commission (NDIC); Mrs. Aisha Ahmad, HCIB, Deputy Governor, Financial Systems Stability, Central Bank of Nigeria and many others. The Conference will feature a keynote address, goodwill messages, paper presentations and panel discussions, all focused on how best to leverage the MSMEs as a key driver for Nigeria’s economic growth and development. 

The sub-themes to be discussed at the Conference are: MSME Financing Gap: The Critical Role of Micro-Funding; Understanding Emerging Disruption in Technology and its Impact on MSME Growth; Harnessing the Value Potentials at MSME in Income and Empowerment Generation; and MSMEs as an Integral Part of the Economic Growth and Recovery Plan. 

There will also be two break-out sessions, holding simultaneously and separately targeted at the youths and the women. 

Other side events include experience sharing by successful entrepreneurs and poetry performance by Mr Dike Chukwumerije, a Nigerian spoken word and performance poetry artist and an award winning author.
