Taxi-hailing
firm Uber has signed a partnership deal with Jubilee
Insurance that will see drivers using the platform access tailor-made
services from the insurer.
The deal
now includes the NSE-listed insurer among Uber’s partner firms and will see
drivers on Jubilee’s Enhanced Comprehensive cover enjoy various benefits. These
include a personal cover for the driver of up to Sh500,000 for accidental death
or permanent disability, a passenger legal liability of up to Sh20 million and
third party property damage claims not exceeding Sh10 million.
Drivers
will also continue to earn an income of Sh1,500 daily when their vehicles are
under repair for more than three days after an accident.
It will
also see drivers pay for premium insurance package in installments, easing the
process for them. The package also includes a cash reward scheme for motorists
who don’t cause accidents.
The deal
is one of ten partnerships that the US-based tech firm has signed with
companies recently as it moves to make vital services readily available to its
partners and drivers.
Other
partner organisations include the National Transport and Safety Authority
(NTSA), MP Shah Hospital, emergency services company Flare, car dealer Toyotsu,
Huawei, Techno, Essilor, Kingsway and Telkom Kenya.

Uber is
hosting the businesses at its Greenlight Hub, a Nairobi-based resource centre
that provides technical support to drivers using the app.
“Uber
values driver-partners and we are always looking to enhance their experience
while saving on their costs, in order for them to make the most from their
small businesses,” said Uber general manager for East Africa Loic Amado.
“We
believe these rewards will help drivers have a better driving experience when
using the Uber app.”
Rescue by
Flare Emergency Response offers free first aid trainings to Uber drivers on a
monthly basis while drivers visiting MP-Shah Hospital desk will receive regular
free medical checkups.
Essilor
offers drivers free eye checkups regularly to ensure that they have healthy
vision thus promoting road safety.
