As the global economy continues to come under severe pressure from the outbreak of the coronavirus from China, the Islamic Development Bank has called for coordinated efforts to tackle the pandemic.

The President of the IsDB, Dr. Bandar Hajjar, disclosed this at a recent humanitarian forum hosted in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.

Dr. Hajjar emphasized the need to strengthen health systems in developing countries to combat COVID-19 and calm down market fears.

He expressed solidarity with all affected countries and the 57 members of the IsDB.

The President assured that the IsDB Group stands ready to extend all necessary support to address the threat and the challenge of containment.

"To support member countries in combating the threat of coronavirus, IsDB Group intends to retrofit existing programs, scale-up financing for health infrastructure that is fit-for-purpose, and promote the relevant exchange of experience through reverse linkage to enhance MCs' health system resilience," Hajjar said.

Since the outbreak of the coronavirus, over 50 countries have recorded cases of people contracting it.
